I truly believe this!  When you put on the perfect lipstick color, it changes your face which in turn changes your mood, which in turn sparks having a fabulous attitude!  Also, what other item for less than ten dollars in many cases, can take a mood from blah to ta' dah!

Confessions from an Accessory Addict!

 I do not think of accessories as the period at the end of the sentence!  No, no, no!  I think of them as the content of the body of work.  So for me, in my lil' ol' opinion accessories are as important as the outfit itself!  And naturally, the Vanity Cases characters on my pithy Vanity Cases women greeting cards are alllllways accessorized and lipsticked' to the max!  

A black dress is a black canvas and I feel this way about any outfit I put together.  I few classic pieces, often balanced with a thrift find, MUST have decoration to complete the picture or the ensemble as it were!  And I hold this true whether it's a day where I don't leave the house or have a schedule full of activities!  

So I confess, a day without accessories - to me - is, uhm, well, eh'hem....Unimaginable!

How bout you - do you feel that way?  

Of course I created a Dolly Parton inspired card!

   

I had no idea how much I adored, respected, luuuved & was inspired by Dolly Parton!

I have taken a somewhat deep-dive into watching Dolly Parton videos and have come up with the term, Partonize!  It's a way to describe specialness in everything from one's appearance to acts of kindness.  (Here is a link to the card shown above.)

In watching what feels like a zillion videos, I'm in endless awe of how self assured Dolly Parton was from her youngest self & through to when se ascended at 80.  She had a through line of talent of course, but equally important ambition, self confidence and gratefulness.

For all the videos I've watched I didn't detect even one tiny misstep and that's from her earliest days and on and from questions that at times seemed patronizing or silly.  She handled every interviewer with respect and an innate humor.  What stood out was her always "giving back."  She had no doubt she would be a star and was clearly always grateful what sounded like God and/or her faith.

One of the things that was amazing was that for the thousands of interviews Dolly gave, she never mentioned her political persuasion.  It was her actions that spoke louder than words with how she supported communities that are often in the shadows of a current administration that spoke on her behalf.  And how can ya' not love someone who was devoted to getting books into the hands of young readers.  I often heard her saying in interviews this was somethings she was most proud of:  Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

So from the hair to the smarts to the spangles to an unbridled confidence, I'm sure we had an Angel on Earth with Dolly Parton.  A way to celebrate her is to Partonize!  Go out as your most fabulous self even if it's only to the mailbox and show kindness in every interaction -

I've sold a titch over 12,000 cards from my site but for certain, I think it's key to have new art!  The Vanity Reflection in this one is to smile, try one's best to be toxically positive, no matter what one has to do!

I'm almost always just that, toxically positive!  Being positive can be like being an athlete!  It's a mindset and needs to be practiced!  Practice, practice, practice!

For Barbra Streisand'aholics! An Easter Egg of a song!

 Oh my gosh!  

After picking up a cd in a thrift shop for 50 cents, which I owned, but couldn't locate, I found a gem of a song!  How, oh how did I ever miss this song!  I'm not saying you have to be a Streisand'ite but this was such a treat to discover a song from her Broadway album, that I've since learned why I missed it ...why it wasn't n the original release!

Barbra, Taylor, the Bridal connection from a Bridal PR Pro -

 I was the PR Director and National Spokesperson for David's Bridal when it was still fairly new and through weaving in my entertainment background, helped put them on the map.

Whether it was about sending out a press release how David's Bridal voted Barbra Streisand Bride of the Year, (years ago), because she illustrated there were no longer rules for what is age appropriate for a bride to wear or sharing affordable variations of let's say Jennifer Aniston's wedding gown (when she married Brad Pitt), it was all about building the brand.

In this video I share a prediction of what I thought Taylor's Christian Dior  gown looked like as well as how I would play the PR for what will be a huge bridal fashion influence.

One of my lil' ol stories from my relationship with Bette Davis

 I had a relationship of sorts with Miss Davis, Bette Davis, in her last 10 years.  There are many aspects of why I considered this a relationship, not least of all she agreed to pose for me for a project when I was at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology).  We had to come up with a magazine concept and mine was way ahead of it's time geared to women "over 39."  

Miss Davis agreed to pose for a photography student!  I died when I got the message from her in my dorm and then called her back for what would be the first of many conversations before we actually met in her Los Angeles home.  I'm attaching a video link where I share the Bette Davis experience here:  https://youtu.be/mdJkKQQ52OM

Once you hit one, go for another!

Reaching for one's goals is like having an "in box!"  At best it should never be empty because there's always something else you can do, reach for and achieve -  even if thatd means finding the perfect shade of red lipstick!

I've been going through some of my older drawings and thinking, Dang!  That's Gewd'! I discovered this one and thought I may have to make this Vanity Observation into a funny woman greeting card, that I'll post in my Etsy Vanity Gallery!  I like the Vanity message cuz' I'm always, but always reaching for goals and there's always new and evolving ones!

Would you have lunch with Baby Jane Hudson?

 

Baby Jane Hudson has been on my mind and I can't seem to stop thinking about what happens to the character at the end of the movie!  As a result of Jane orbiting my thoughts, I've created a video, I'll post here and much art including bookmarks, which I've posted in my EtsyVanityGallery.

If you are part of "my tribe," you're familiar with Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and I wonder if the characters get into your thoughts as they do mine.

I'm older than Jane Hudson!

 

For the longest time, Bette Davis as Baby Jane Hudson seemed way older than me!  

And now, she truly is the "baby" as I'm much older than Jane and/ or Miss Davis when she gave this outstanding performance!

This is one of my favorite - ever films and so worth a watch if you've never seen!  "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?"

Age! It can be so different through the prism of Hollywood through the years -

Bette Davis was 54 years old when she played Jane Hudson -

This is many years younger than I am now!  I feel compelled to make a video spotlighting how Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and Gloria Swanson, in Sunset Blvd (2 of my favorite movies), were playing over-the-hill, aged women through the prism of Hollywood's perception about age - back then!  

I luuuuuved Norma Desmond and even dress in what I call my Norma Desmond Dress Code!

Seriously, 50s today can certainly still be oldish' for some, but as far as I'm concerned it's just when the apple has gotten it's shine!  It's when you can reflect on what's in your rear view mirror but holds no reigns on what is still ahead!

One of my fave' expressions is:

You're never too Old -- It's never too late -  You never know what tomorrow brings!

But then again, I'm a toxically optimistic person!

Working with Carol Channing was a hoot!

I had a hoot working with entertainment legend Carol Channing!

I've had a fun career ride and being an entertainment publicist was maybe the most fun!  Like any profession/ job, it takes work, dedication and creativity but for me the pay off was working with someone like Carol Channing!  I share a cute lil' story of just a single experience - as there were many!

 I truly believe if you have time to brush your teeth, you have time to put on a lil' mascara and if you have time for mascara, you have a moment to apply a little lipstick!  And Honey, if you have time to do the lips, for certain, you can carve out a moment to add a little concealer if needed, and to draw on an expressive eyebrow!  And for heaven's sake, you can take the split second to powder your fabulous face!

What I guess I'm saying is take a moment to polish up the face and that little bit of vanity will give you sanity through the day!
